Bad idea?

Or just further proof that "white people just don't understand." I think its possible that his inability to understand what was happening speaks more to the reason he left 20 questions blank than the "trauma".

Hmmm, if the teacher was trying to simulate "invidious discrimination" in an Ethnicity class was he so far out of line? Of course, much depends on whether that was clear to the class at the time(except for the dummy in the Elway jersey) - or was made clear immediately afterwards by a "What I was trying to show you with that is..." - or whether its an explanation that the teacher scrambled for once he got caught abusing a student.

As someone who aspires to be an educator, I have to say that I find this teacher's actions reprehensible. Even if he intended it as a joke and/or some kind of twisted lesson in ethics, the fact remains that the student was made to feel uncomfortable and preyed upon by the teacher and his classmates. A classroom should be a supportive environment where every student is made to feel like part of the school community, no matter their views or sports preferences. By singling this student out for ridicule, the teacher abused his power. It was petty, demeaning, and contrary to every classroom ethical guideline. He may have thought it was funny, but it was clear that his student did not. And that is the only valid measure in this case. "He was supposed to stand up for people who can't stand up for themselves. He was supposed to stand up for Willy."
