Invitation for Democrat Opinion

I'm interested in knowing how our Democrat Schmoliticians feel about the Lieberman-Lamont Senate race, especially in light of yesterday's primary results.

Special consideration will be given to D's who've actually lived in Connecticut.

In an odd turn of events, a quick visit to Joe Lieberman's website revealed that his campaign site has been hacked.

Ned Lamont's site is OK.

Any predictions on if Lieberman can pull off a victory in November running in opposition to the DNC machine? Would D's want him to? John McCain might....

Well, technically I'm one of the D's who've lived in CT, although my 1 year sojourn doesn't exactly make me an expert on either CT or Joe Lieberman. My personal feelings are "good riddance." He turned into a Republican, and a W sycophant, after 9/11, so I'm not sorry to see him get beat. Good for the CT Dems.

Will he win the general election as an I? Maybe. CT in general is a Democratic state, but much of that is due to the current state of the GOP. CT Republicans are moderates (fiscal conservatives, law & order types, and social moderates - O.G. Republicans, Teddy Roosevelt Republicans, etc.). I knew several Rs in CT and they are NOT thrilled with the turn their party has taken. To give you a flavor, I heard a Republican-appointed, former prosecutor, federal judge refer to the Bush Administration and its Congressional allies as "Neanderthals." That doesn't mean they run around voting for Ds, but a moderate/conservative D could get their vote over a liberal or somebody yakking about the gay threat to marriage, how bad stem cell research is, abortion, and how kids should pray to Jesus Christ to start every school day after walking past a big state-sponsored cross on the lawn on the way in.

In sum, a conservative quasi-D like Lieberman could draw a winning amount of votes from the center, combining conservative Ds and moderate Rs to grab a plurality in a 3 person race. It'll be interesting to see if the Democratic Party can get Ds to stick with the party candidate and whether Rs stick with an R. Lamont should definitely NOT feel confortable. The primary was the easy part.
