And the hits just keep on coming...

When I first saw this headline (and the following story) in today's Post, I thought I must have misread it. With all that's happened in the last couple of weeks, I was sure I had seen it all from our government. I stand corrected.

"Bush Suspends Pay Act In Areas Hit by Storm"

If I wasn't before, I am now officially embarassed to call myself an American.

Bizarre. How can Bush justify throwing out "a minimum pay scale for workers on federal contracts ... requiring contractors to pay the prevailing or average pay in the region"? It's the part where federal contracts would be paid out at rates lower than what typical private efforts would be that really confuses me. Is this just a "stick it to 'em" for organized labor, and if so, WHY NOW OF ALL TIMES??

If I could steal from my friend Rob, he pointed out the other night that Kanye West was actually incorrect. Its not that George Bush doesn't care about black people. He doesn't care about poor people. Just more evidence here.

People like Kanye West, Common, Wyclef Jean, and Mos Def are a blessing: socially concious entertainers who actually have some idea what they are talking about. If only more inner-city youth were idolising them instead of the artists who are "rapping about diamonds and violence"!
