New Milestone - 2,000 American soldiers killed in Iraq

"Grieve little and move on. I shall be looking over you. And you will hear me from time to time on the gentle breeze that sounds at night, and in the rustle of leaves."

This was what a 25-year-old sergeant wrote to his wife and two children before he was killed by a roadside bomb this year.

Interesting (I wouldn't call it *contrasting*) view from a military spokesman in Iraq as quoted in the Washington Post:

"While the 2,000th death caused a flurry of activity across Washington, a military spokesman in Baghdad circulated an e-mail in which he called the occasion 'an artificial mark on the wall.'

'The 2,000th soldier, sailor, airman or Marine that is killed in action is just as important as the first that died and will be just as important as the last to die in this war against terrorism,' said Army Lt. Col. Steven A. Boylan."
